What is Belize’s exit tax?

USD $20 / BZD $40 per person when leaving the country (payable in cash or by card). If your transit between Guatemala and Mexico (or vice versa) is under 24 hours, the tax is reduced to USD $16.25.

Do I need a special permit to enter Belize?

If you’re a citizen of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Guyana, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Paraguay, Peru, Brazil, Israel (or another country in this category) and hold a valid U.S. or Canadian visa, you must request entry permission before traveling.

• Bank account statement
• Proof of onward/exit travel (land, air, or sea)
• Hotel reservation
• Photo of your visa (if applicable)

How long is the wait at the border?

The maximum wait time at borders is 15 minutes. If you have an immigration interview or additional paperwork, the shuttle continues on its scheduled route; we are not responsible for immigration-related delays.

Do I have to pay a tax entering Mexico?

If your stay in Mexico is under 6 days, no entry tax applies (you must show your Mexico exit ticket; more info at inm.gob.mx). If your stay is longer than 7 days, the entry tax is USD $60 (you must show your Mexico exit ticket).

How far in advance should I book?
